After a full day given to Vincent for catching up after
his cold or whatever virus, we take the road, direction Kiruna.
Leaving Pajala, a sign makes
it clear : KIRUNA 185km.
Well...
Let's ride...
Boredom's there before 10km :
the straight road built for trucks is completely uninteresting and
with some trafic.
We sometime have to escape fearfully
from these furious monsters, boarding iron from Kiruna to elsewhere.
Some abandonned houses
punctuate the road, there's really a few people in the countryside,
almost nobody except the hidden houses near the river.
We stop for lunch near a boat
wreck, delighted not being troubled by mosquitoes. We meet two
cyclo-tourists like us, but they go to the north cap on small roads
or trails.
In the afternoon, we feel
like the road isn't as flat, but it's not enough to get a view on the
gigantic forest we're going through.
Stopping at Vittangi's
camping after 120 long and dull kilometers, we are quickly surrounded
by a thick mosquito cloud. No living room, no kitchen, mosquitoes :
restaurant !
As soon as we go to bed, rain
starts pourring down just to stop in the morning, letting us fleeing
from this trapped camping.
Rain, rain, and only rain for this
boring morning. Between trucks, showers and painful
asses, we get some pictures of lappish landsacpe, a mix of marsh and
small tree's forests over gentle hills in the clouds, beautifully
wild.
Kiruna, at last ! Exhausted,
we enjoy the camping with its wet cyclist-friendly living room where
we can dry our soaked clothes.
It's weird to finnally be in
this city we've endlessly looked at on maps, a gate to the Lofoten,
so remote for so long and now we're in it !
To mark the occasion, we went
to a delicious (and horribly expensive) sami restaurant. Wonderfully
tasty !
Sorry Annabelle, here is our
best photo we got of the spatial center you asked us. It's a 45km
long dead end :-( .
